In 1947, Mikhil Kalashnikov, the legendary Russian gundesigner, created the AK-47 assault rifle. Eventually adopted by theRed Army in 1949, it became famous as the "People's Rifle". Such renownwas not unwarranted, as it was utterly reliable, rugged, simple tooperate and maintain, economical, and effective at reasonable ranges.This weapon, and all it represents became the inspiration for ColdSteel's newest heavy-duty tactical knife, the AK-47 Folder. Designed byAndrew Demko, the AK-47 possesses all of the attributes of itsnamesake, and perhaps a few more.
Built for hard and rugged use, the AK-47's handle is made with thickaircraft grade aluminum scales that are bolted to steel liners, thiscreates a robust grip that is remarkable tough, rigid, and incomparablystrong. The grip is also equipped with a unique pommel. Made ofGrivory, the pommel features two lanyard holes, and can serve as a"less than lethal" percussion tool in a self-defense situation.
The hollow ground blade has been honed by hand until it reaches levelsof sharpness only seen on a surgeon's scalpel. It's made from JapaneseAUS 8A stainless steel, then vacuum heat treated, and sub zero quenchedto make it as tough and rugged as humanly possible. To complement suchan exceptional blade, we have equipped the AK-47 with Ultra Locklocking mechanism. With the latest refinements and testing, this lockhas proven itself to be equal, perhaps even superior, to any other lockon the market in terms of strength and shock resistance.
Finally, to assure easy access, and swift operation, the AK-47 comeswith an ambidextrous pocket clip and thumb plate. The thumb plate has adual purpose, it allows the knife to be drawn and quickly opened bysnagging it on the edge of a pocket or it can be used like aconventional thumb stud for easy one-handed opening.
